The carrot is an herbaceous plant belonging to the family of Umbelliferae, it is also one of the most common vegetables, and its name derives from the greek carrot Karotón.La spontaneously spread to Europe, Asia and North Africa. Spontaneous state is considered weeds and is easily placed in sunny areas and in arid and rocky, but also in all the rural areas to suburbs and even towns. 

It is a herbaceous biennial, high up to 100 cm, but in the second year develops an erect stem and branched with large globular shape umbrella made up ombrellette. These in turn are formed by small white flowers with five petals, the central flower is dark red. The inflorescence has large yellowish bracts similar to leaves. The flowers are fragrant small glands that attract insects. It flowers in spring from May until December forwarded. The fruits are fraught with quills diacheni helping spread by animals. The inflorescences after fertilization of the flowers close to Bird's Nest. The leaves are deeply divided and hairy. The root is long taproot of a yellowish color. 

The carrot is rich in vitamin A (beta-carotene), B, C, PP, D and E and minerals, and starches. For this reason its consumption promotes an increase in the defense against infectious diseases. 

Contains components with estrogenic activity, especially beta carotene, which, like all phytoestrogens, is a substance similar to female hormones. This property is confirmed by traditional carrot as a stimulator of breast milk - in fact acting on the breast by promoting the development of mammary glands.
